As the weather cools off in the winter months, you’re likely to find yourself spending more time indoors. Snuggling up near a warm fire with a hot cup of hot chocolate is one way to get cozy when the weather turns frigid. A few home décor touches – adding a stack of books on your favorite bookshelf, throwing a few more throw pillows on the couch – can all add even more coziness to your home.
One of our favorite ways to add warmth to a home is with indoor rugs. Rugs are a must have in colder months, particularly if you have wood or tile floors, which can turn with the temperature. A warm shag rug underfoot can immediately warm up your feet and body.
Here are our tips for adding warmth to your home during the winter months:
Choose a large rug for large rooms:We’ve already said they’re a must for hardwood floors, but large rugs can even add to a feeling of warmth to carpeted floors. Choose a neutral pattern that complements your couch or if you’re décor is already neutral, try going bold with a darker color of rug or even a pattern.
Choose shag for a plush feel: A plush shag rug is great for sitting and reading a magazine with a cup of coffee on a cool morning. It’s a simple way to add a lush feeling, even if your design is minimalist.
Go with a neutral rug for a calming feel: If you’re interior design style is more patterns with loads of intricate style, adding a neutral rug will add a calmness to the room and blend seamlessly.
Choose a synthetic fabric if you have kids or pets that track mud: Rugs made of synthetic materials tend to be easier to clean. Many are designed for indoor/outdoor use.
